Jigsaws to heart's content! |
Play and win any of the following jigsaw puzzles. These were tried by others but not solved in less than N2 moves.
Any N x N jigsaw puzzle contains N2 pieces. For example, a 6 x 6 puzzle contains 36 pieces. Initially, all the pieces are placed in cells different from their actual cells. It is possible to drag and drop a piece from one cell to another. Hence, identifying the right cell for each piece and moving it will take 36 moves. However, when a piece is moved to a cell, then the existing piece at that cell is moved to one of the adjacent cells that is free (a total of 8 cells atmost searched from left to right, top to bottom) and if no free cell is available, it is moved aside. Hence, it is possible sometimes to position two pieces into their right cells by using a single move. This requires a little bit of planning and by doing this, it's possible to solve the puzzle in fewer than the 36 moves. Anytime a jigsaw is solved in fewer than N2 moves, it is considered a win. Only wins of jisaws of size 5 x 5 and above are displayed on the front page.
